The Nativity School experience is characterized by personal attention. Small classes and a highly talented and dedicated faculty provide Nativity students with a student centered approach to teaching, providing a strong, specialized curriculum.
A multi-intelligence approach to learning provides the foundation for teaching and learning at Nativity. Our faculty use varied teaching strategies that recognize the many different learning styles and create a classroom environment that takes into consideration the unique ways in which students learn. Teachers encourage critical thinking to allow students to demonstrate expression of thought and knowledge through many different ways.
More than three-quarters of the faculty hold a graduate degree in education or their area of expertise in addition to their teaching credentials. The Nativity School teachers also consistently participate in continuous professional development. While grounded in years of experience, the faculty is up to date with teaching strategies and pedagogy that promote optimum student success.

Growing up in Minnesota a good education was always deemed important. Mrs. Gruen grew up in a very high rated school district where teachers cared and wanted to make a difference. This is where her love for learning began. At the age of ten she knew that Education was her love. She always liked to “play school” in her basement, wanting rather to be the teachers instead of the student. When it was time for college she knew her major must be Early Childhood and Elementary Education. She was finally able to take classes in areas of learning that helped her come alive. She wanted to share this positive learning experience with children so they could begin their educational journey in a positive light. She moved to San Diego where she was finally able to bring this dream to life. She taught in the Catholic Diocese for many years before having children. Once her children were born she took a temporary sabbatical from teaching to stay with them. She is excited to be have returned to her, now, second love in life and feels very fortunate to share this with many families and children.
