Faculty Directory

The Nativity School experience is characterized by personal attention. Small classes and a highly talented and dedicated faculty provide Nativity students with a student centered approach to teaching, providing a strong, specialized curriculum.
A multi-intelligence approach to learning provides the foundation for teaching and learning at Nativity. Our faculty use varied teaching strategies that recognize the many different learning styles and create a classroom environment that takes into consideration the unique ways in which students learn. Teachers encourage critical thinking to allow students to demonstrate expression of thought and knowledge through many different ways.
More than three-quarters of the faculty hold a graduate degree in education or their area of expertise in addition to their teaching credentials. The Nativity School teachers also consistently participate in continuous professional development. While grounded in years of experience, the faculty is up to date with teaching strategies and pedagogy that promote optimum student success.

The opportunity to teach is a gift and Mrs. McOwen has been blessed with the opportunity to teach Kindergarten. Her calling to teach was inspired by her faith and role as a mother. She began teaching at The Nativity School nine years ago and have been motivated to make an impact with each student she teaches. Her program is based on the multiple intelligences and she provides an environment where students can grow, learn, and take risks as they navigate their new school experience. She strives to instill a love of learning as she loves teaching.

She enjoys teaching kindergarten because she teaches social skills along with academic skills. At this age children are learning how to make friends, be a friend, and to forgive a friend. They are learning how to say sorry when they make a mistake and using words to explain. This all happens in a safe environment where they learn and role-play through these important social skills.

Her journey with The Nativity School began long before she started teaching Kindergarten. Initially her own 3 children attended The Nativity School from Kindergarten through 8th grade. The school and parish community are a large part of her life and she is proud to be a part of it as a family and a teacher.

Mrs. McOwen grew up in California and comes from a large family. She attended San Diego State University and National University. She has 3 children and spends most of her time with family and friends enjoying the beach, hiking, cooking, and traveling.

Watching the children grow by leaps and bounds throughout the year is such a joy for her! She is dedicated to instilling a love for lifelong learning in her students as they excel through holistic curriculum and instruction. Teaching comes from the heart and her heart has always loved teaching Kindergarten!

She always looks forward to enjoying her students and helping them develop an enthusiasm for learning.
